Pre-feasibility Study on Use of Green Fuels at Moroccan Ports to be Launched Monday in Rabat

Rabat – A workshop to launch the “pre-feasibility study for the production, storage, supply and export of zero-carbon fuels at Morocco’s ports” will be held on Monday January 15 in Rabat, on the initiative of the Ministry of Equipment and Water and the World Bank.

The workshop, whose opening session will be chaired by Minister of Equipment and Water, Nizar Baraka, will highlight the Ministry’s and the World Bank’s approach to the catalytic role of the port sector in the development of a green economy, according to a statement by the Ministry of Equipment and Water.

It also aims to share the preliminary results of the inception report and the details of the study with the various stakeholders to gather their comments and suggestions.

The pre-feasibility study will examine the spatial, technical and economic options for the production of green energy to be used both for export and to supply ships in Moroccan ports with green fuel, the Ministry said, adding that the case studies resulting from this study con
cern the ports of Mohammedia, Jorf Lasfar, Tangier Med and a port in the Tan-Tan region.

Through this action, the Ministry of Equipment and Water intends to support the national energy transition process aimed at developing and promoting the use of renewable energies in all economic sectors, in particular the port and maritime sector for which Morocco has great potential, according to the same source.
