Kampala – The Final Declaration adopted by the Heads of State and Government at the Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement, held in Kampala on January 19-20, highlighted the pioneering role played by Morocco at the UN in the adoption of several pioneering initiatives.
In this respect, the final declaration referred to the Resolution against the Burning of the Holy Quran and Hate Speech, presented by Morocco on July 25, 2023 and adopted by the UN General Assembly unanimously by its 193 member states.
The adoption of this resolution enshrined Morocco’s role, in line with the High Directives and Enlightened Vision of HM King Mohammed VI, as a regional and global leader in promoting the values of peace, tolerance and inter-religious and intercultural dialogue, as well as in combating the danger of hate speech conveyed by violent extremism, obscurantism, populism and racism of all kinds.
The Kampala Summit also praised Morocco’s role in peacekeeping and peacebuilding at UN level, notably through its presidency of t
he Central African Republic Configuration, and through its status as coordinator of the Non-Aligned Movement Working Group on UN peacekeeping operations.
The Heads of State and Government also commended Morocco’s significant contribution to the regional and international fight against terrorism.
The NAM also backed and encouraged Moroccan national and regional initiatives on human development and sustainable development, as well as on the fight against corruption, migration and climate change.
In addition, the Kampala Declaration praised Morocco’s key role in facilitating the UN process to support pandemic prevention, preparedness and response (PPR).
Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, represented HM King Mohammed VI, May God assist Him, at the 19th Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM).
