Installed and operational in less than three days, the hospital provides vital assistance to survivors from the villages of the Al Haouz province, where the earthquake struck.
The Royal gesture brings solace to the hearts of the affected populations, as they highly appreciate this high-impact humanitarian initiative aimed at alleviating the suffering of the disaster victims.
Khadija, a woman in her fifties injured in her lower limbs, expresses her feelings of gratitude and thanks to His Majesty the King for the rapid medical care she has received.
“Thank God, the FAR [Royal Armed Forces] medical teams generously provided me with healthcare and a great deal of comfort,” she told MAP, visibly still emotional.
Nearby, Houcine pays tribute to the medical staff of the Asni military hospital for the strong support they provide to patients. “I can only say thank you to all the healthcare personnel who spare no effort to restore us to good health,” he stated in a similar declaration, praising the attention given to assisting and supporting people with injuries.
In the same vein, the FAR medical facility provides vulnerable individuals with the services of a psychiatric unit to help them cope with the difficult situation following the earthquake.
Medical services are available 24/7 in orthopedic surgery, maxillofacial surgery, ENT surgery, neurosurgery, and ophthalmology, as stated by Colonel Youssef Qamouss, the head physician of the Asni field military hospital.
During just one day on Monday, nearly 500 people from the affected villages in the Al Haouz province were admitted to the hospital, primarily for treating injuries to the limbs, chest, or face.
Seventeen-year-old Zakaria successfully underwent the first surgical procedure on Monday at the military hospital for severe hand tendon injuries. “This operation went very well, but medical follow-up and physiotherapy sessions are still necessary for a complete recovery,” noted Dr. Omar Zaddoug, a trauma orthopedic surgeon.
The operating room, he emphasized, has the required capabilities to conduct minor to moderate surgical procedures calmly, while more complex surgeries are performed at the University Hospital or the military hospital in Marrakech.
The individuals receiving care mainly suffer from injuries to the limbs, chest, or face. “For most cases, they are not severe,” reassured the hospital’s head physician, highlighting that many children and elderly individuals require psychological support to help them overcome this challenging period.
On the High Instructions of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, Supreme Commander and Chief of the General Staff of the Royal Armed Forces (FAR), the Royal Armed Forces urgently deployed significant human and logistical resources, both aerial and terrestrial, as well as specialized intervention modules consisting of Search and Rescue teams and a Field Military Surgical Hospital (HMCC) on the night of September 9, 2023, following the earthquake that struck the Al Haouz province.
Necessary arrangements were made at the General Staff of the FAR and the Kingdom’s Armories, in terms of liaison and coordination with local authorities, according to a statement from the General Staff of the FAR.
Intervention detachments, aircraft, helicopters, drones, engineering resources, and logistical units are deployed on-site to provide necessary support to the various concerned departments and the affected populations.
