The pan-European Stoxx 600 index closed down 0.2 percent, recovering early losses that took the index to a two-week low.

SAP shares rose 2.1 percent, lifting the broader technology sector 0.9 percent, after the software company raised its full-year targets with a boost from strong cloud computing business in the third quarter of this year.

The stock limited some of the losses on the German DAX index, given its 15 percent weighting on the index.

Saab, a military equipment manufacturer, topped the Stoxx index with an 8.9 percent rise, after saying its quarterly operating profit was stronger than expected and confirming its annual outlook.
