Casablanca Police Thwart Attempt to Traffic 1,42 T of Cannabis Resin

Rabat – Members of the Casablanca police prefecture’s Judicial police, in coordination with the services of the General Directorate of Territory Surveillance (DGST), thwarted on Wednesday evening an attempt to traffic one tonne and 420 kg of cannabis resin, locally known as ‘chira’.

They also arrested two individuals, one of whom had a criminal record, suspected of links with a criminal network involved in the international trafficking of narcotics and psychotropic drugs, according to a press release from the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN).

The suspects were arrested immediately after their arrival in a utility vehicle in Casablanca, the same source said, adding that searches led to the seizure of an inflatable boat and an outboard motor, as well as 42 bales of chira weighing a total of one tonne and 420 kg.

The defendants were placed in police custody for the purposes of a judicial investigation under the supervision of the relevant public prosecutor’s office, in order to determine the po
ssible ramifications of this criminal activity and to arrest the other accomplices.

This security operation is part of the intense and continuous efforts deployed by the DGSN and DGST services to combat international drug and psychotropic drug trafficking, the press release concluded.
