5.8-Magnitude Earthquake Hits Kepulauan Babar Region in Eastern Indonesia

An earthquake measuring 5.8 magnitude on the Richter scale struck off the coast of the Maluku Islands in eastern Indonesia on Tuesday.

No casualties or property damage have been reported so far.

The US Geological Survey reported that the earthquake occurred in the Kepulauan Babar region, east of the Maluku Archipelago, at a depth of 80.1 km A 4.6-magnitude earthquake struck the Kepulauan Babar region two days ago, without any damage reported.

Indonesia is regularly exposed to earthquakes due to its location on the Pacific Ring of Fire where many tectonic plates meet and cause frequent volcanic and seismic activity.
