4.7 Magnitude Earthquake Hits Kermanshah Province, Western Iran

An earthquake measuring 4.7 on the Richter scale struck on Sunday the Gahvareh region, west of Kermanshah province, western Iran, without recording any casualties.

According to the Seismological Center of the Geophysical Institute of Tehran University, the earthquake occurred at a depth of 7 kilometers.

The Iranian (IRNA) news agency said that so far, there has been no report on the potential damage of this earthquake.

Iran is exposed to earthquakes and tremors from time to time due to its location over a major fault zone. The most violent earthquake was the 7.7 magnitude quake which struck the provinces of Gilan and Zanjan in 1990, killing 37,000 people and injuring 100,000 others.
